About Oholei Torah

Educational Institute Oholei Torah is the flagship school for the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch Movement, drawing students from around the world and providing a vast majority of the Chabad emissaries from amongst its graduates. With the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, obm, as an integral part of the curriculum, Oholei Torah's unique educational standards are among the highest to be found. Founded in 1957, Oholei Torah has grown to an all-inclusive center of Jewish education for over 1600 students of all ages.

Oholei Torah started out with just three students. As the kindergarten flourished and the elementary level grew, Oholei Torah's 8th grade graduating students began to press for more. In 1964, Oholei Torah added a high school division. In 1970 came the founding of the Talmudic Seminary for post-high school Talmudic Studies, which is recognized as a College Program in the State of New York, and a recipient of the prestigious AARTS program.

With the opening of the Talmudic seminary, Oholei Torah reached its zenith, becoming an institute that can truly provide a wholesome education for life. From the first introduction to the basics of Jewish life at age two to advanced Talmudic study at age twenty, Oholei Torah has become the paradigm of education for tomorrow's leaders.

Despite its vast size, Oholei Torah continues to maintain its original tradition of working with the individual needs of every single student. As the challenge grows, innovative and varied methods are constantly being introduced to meet it.

Oholei Torah's founding students have gone on to become Shluchim, tireless promoters of Jewish life and practice in virtually every community worldwide. Their contemporaries who joined them in the years since then have followed their lead. They say they are simply putting into practice the ideals conveyed in Oholei Torah: Torah learning and devotion are paramount, but they are not enough. They must lead you to a life of sharing that passion with your community and the world at large. Oholei Torah graduates are the most sought after candidates for the 'Chabad Peace Corps' program, valued for their passion, their constant energy and their superior level of scholarship.

Seven out of every ten Oholei Torah alumni chose the role of Shliach, emissary of the Rebbe as their life's mission when they settle down with marriage and family. Far beyond a simple title, this commitment involves a lifetime of dedication to the Chabad Lubavitch mission that has taken our students literally all over the world in the dissemination of Judaism.

Oholei Torah's graduates can be found serving communities from being the Chief Rabbi in Rio de Janeiro to the Director of Chabad Activities in Little Rock, Arkansas and thousands of communities in between.

At the helm of worldwide community service organizations such as Collel Chabad. the State of Israel's Rabbinate Council, Chief Rabbis of the Former Soviet Union, Chabad World Wide Educational Systems, Lubavitch Youth Organization and many others, are leaders who were educated at Oholei Torah.

The alumni who graduate Oholei Torah and go on to change the lives of hundreds of thousands with a lifelong dedication to spreading Judaism, leaves no room for doubt: Oholei Torah produces results. The results are consistent, dependable and absolutely vital to nothing less than the future of the Jewish people.
